Hekpoort 4X4 Club
On Saturday 1 October 2022 Hekpoort 4X4 Klub together with Hekpoort Primary School hosted an extremely successful 4X4 event.
As in the past, approximately eighty to ninety vehicles were expected to participate with between one and two thousand spectators.
The event takes place on a very competitive course in nature there being about ten obstacles that count for points.

Secretary
Barend Olivier is a seasoned professional with a rich background in the hospitality industry. At the age of 50, he brings over two decades of experience to his current role. Born in the quaint Free State town of Reitz, Barend completed his matriculation in Senekal before embarking on his career journey.
He began his professional path at ABSA bank, dedicating over six years to the financial institution. His passion for hospitality led him to pursue further education in this field, earning a Hospitality Management Diploma from the Free State Technicon. This academic achievement marked the start of a new chapter in his career, transitioning into the hotel industry at the prestigious Hilton Hotel in Durban.
Over the years, Barend has been a key figure at Southern Sun, where he has served for 21 years. His journey with the group has seen him take on roles at various hotels and resorts throughout South Africa, showcasing his versatility and commitment to excellence in the hospitality sector. Notably, he spent time at the iconic Beacon Island Resort in Plettenberg Bay, further honing his skills and expertise in managing high-profile hospitality establishments.
His vast experience and deep understanding of the industry have now led him to join the team at Mount Grace, where his leadership and expertise are invaluable assets.

Andre Schmidt obtained the B.Com LLB degrees at RAU in 1988.
After completion of his articles, he was admitted as an attorney on 22 September 1992.
He has been in his own private practice, AC Schmidt Inc., February 1998.
Andre has further obtained an Advanced Diploma in Labour Law, Post Graduate Diploma in Tax Law, which qualifications assisted him to specialise in Labour Law, Commercial Litigation, Contracts and Tax Law
Andre has been an active member of the Mountain Club of South Africa, Magaliesberg Section, since 1988 as a mountaineer and rock climber. He is also presently a member on the committee of the Magaliesberg Section.
He is actively involved in activities to protect the beauty and wilderness character of the mountains, especially the Magaliesberg.

Peter Itumeleng Selebogi, was born 1970 July 22. He is the second born in the family of two boys and one girl (Pinky). He attended school at Magaliesburg state school and matriculated at Rustenburg.
Due to the unemployment rate in the the country he ended up going into the taxi industry in 1992 as a driver and this is where he obtained extra driving skills by completing certificates in:
In 2001 he bought himself a minibus taxi and joined the Taxi Association as an owner.
He served on the association as general secretary for 2 terms (10 yrs) and 1 term as Grievance Officer.
He has since bought another minibus taxi and is working mainly with groups like churches, burial societies, schools and social clubs, his understanding and respect for others helps him increase his customers every time.

History
Nigel has an intense interest in history and a desire to see Magaliesburg prosper. He has managed to combine these two to make a difference, albeit a very tiny difference.
He, together with the help of others, has managed to resurrect the Magaliesburg Historical Society. Nigel also represents Magaliesburg’s interests on the West Rand Development Agency’s (“WRDA”)’ project to bring international and local tourists to the greater Magaliesberg area.
Nigel studied geology at UPE, but never practiced geology and went into computing instead, spending 10 years with IBM, before going out contracting, and then joining the banks and spending over 14 years with ABSA. The changing dynamics of the South Africa workplace led Nigel to become an Independent Contractor again doing project management for the large financial intuitions, specialising in IT, Banking and Regulatory projects. He also has a master’s degree from Wits University.
Currently Nigel is semi-retired and has a small farm in Koesterfontein and is busy turning it from a lifestyle farm to a working farm.

Hannelie is a qualified pharmacist and a dynamic businesswoman with various business interests. She sees herself first and foremost as the mother of her two children – Carla and Rijn and wife of Errol with whom she shares a rustic homestead in Hekpoort, on the foothills of the Magalies Mountains.
Hannelie obtained a B.Pharm degree at the university of Potchefstroom in 1986, moved to Magaliesburg in 1989 – where she opened Country Pharmacy – first in a group of 6 pharmacies stretching over 3 provences. As employer of a contingent of 40+ people Hannelie strongly believes in helping people develop their full potential. She is running a youth development program in her pharmacies where she gives inexperienced youth the necessary skills.
Apart from her work in the medical field – MelonRouge Eatery Art Antiques was created in 2007 – a venue where food, art, books, antiques, vintage clothing and leisure meet to create an interesting space where friends and families come together. Here she hosts regular art exhibitions where she strives to push the boundaries of creativity and provoke thought. She was one of the first participants in RSA of the celebrated international SLOW ART day. This venture lead to the opening of TWAK – a quirky second hand shop at the entrance of Magaliesburg.
She owns commercial property and has dedicated space for small local entrepreneurs and create opportunity for them to set foot in the retail business with guidance and assistance.
With her passion for the Afrikaans language and the local history of Magalies – she established a Jochem van Bruggen window museum where memorabilia is being kept for future generations.
As a leader – Hannelie plays a key role in her community on different levels. She is a founding member of the Magaliesburg Business Forum in which se actively participate since 2015. She leads the organisation of the annual Magalies Rocks the Cradle weekend festival, which strive to promote the area as a tourist destination and investment opportunity for city dwellers that wants to escape the rat race. She established and sponsors the WeLoveMagalies INFO centre at the entrance of Magaliesburg where local businesses can display and advertise their ventures.
She has managed not only to realise her vision for herself and her business but continues to strive to serve her community and to inspire the people she comes into contact with.

Stoney attended school at Sentraal High in Bloemfontein.
He was a member of the SA Police Service from 1975 to 2000 after which he joined the corporate world and was involved for a few years in a security company.
Thereafter he became a Safety and Security Manager for a Telecomms company specialising in Environmental Health and Safety and Event Safety.
