Hannelie is a qualified pharmacist and a dynamic businesswoman with various business interests. She sees herself first and foremost as the mother of her two children – Carla and Rijn and wife of Errol with whom she shares a rustic homestead in Hekpoort, on the foothills of the Magalies Mountains.
Hannelie obtained a B.Pharm degree at the university of Potchefstroom in 1986, moved to Magaliesburg in 1989 – where she opened Country Pharmacy – first in a group of 6 pharmacies stretching over 3 provences. As employer of a contingent of 40+ people Hannelie strongly believes in helping people develop their full potential. She is running a youth development program in her pharmacies where she gives inexperienced youth the necessary skills.
Apart from her work in the medical field – MelonRouge Eatery Art Antiques was created in 2007 – a venue where food, art, books, antiques, vintage clothing and leisure meet to create an interesting space where friends and families come together. Here she hosts regular art exhibitions where she strives to push the boundaries of creativity and provoke thought. She was one of the first participants in RSA of the celebrated international SLOW ART day. This venture lead to the opening of TWAK – a quirky second hand shop at the entrance of Magaliesburg.
She owns commercial property and has dedicated space for small local entrepreneurs and create opportunity for them to set foot in the retail business with guidance and assistance.
With her passion for the Afrikaans language and the local history of Magalies – she established a Jochem van Bruggen window museum where memorabilia is being kept for future generations.
As a leader – Hannelie plays a key role in her community on different levels. She is a founding member of the Magaliesburg Business Forum in which se actively participate since 2015. She leads the organisation of the annual Magalies Rocks the Cradle weekend festival, which strive to promote the area as a tourist destination and investment opportunity for city dwellers that wants to escape the rat race. She established and sponsors the WeLoveMagalies INFO centre at the entrance of Magaliesburg where local businesses can display and advertise their ventures.
She has managed not only to realise her vision for herself and her business but continues to strive to serve her community and to inspire the people she comes into contact with.
